We’re cutting straight to the chase today!

Here’s what I got:

Three full sized products:
Pixi by Petra Mesmerizing Mineral Duo in Apricot Glow – value about $12 (I couldn’t find this exact product on their site, so I took the cost of something similar.)
NYX Butter Lipstick in Pops – value $6
Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter – value $18

Two sample sized products:
Acure Day Cream –  value about $10
skyn ICELAND Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels – value about $3.75

So for $10 I got about $49.75 worth of products.

My verdict: EEEHHHH. Why IPSY, why?! I loved you for so long (well, ten months or so) and then I get two bags IN A ROW that I’m just not loving. =\
– The Pixi eye colors are really pretty and I do like the brand, but eh. I have so many of these colors AND they’re SUPER shimmery.
– I’m not a fan of lipstick. Haven’t we made this clear?!
– The highlighter is pretty. I guess…
– I won’t use the day cream because I’m currently already enjoying a moisturizer*, BUT I have heard this day cream is really nice.
– I’m pretty excited about the eye gels. I’m happy with this ONE product and the bag.

WOMP. I know you can’t win them all. I’m not going to cancel just yet… I am going to give IPSY one more chance and see how my next bag goes. Maybe the third time will be a charm.

IPSY – February 2015

It’s hereeee!

I got:

A cute pink and gray bag

Two sample sized products:
Cargo Cosmetics Mini Lip Gloss in Anguilla – value about $8
Eva NYC Up All Night Volumizing Spray – value about $3

Three full sized products:
Luxie Beauty Large Angled Face Brush 504 – value $16
ModelCo Blush Cheek Powder in Peach Bellini – value $22
“Pencil Me In” Cosmetics Natural Eye Liner Pencil in Amethyst – value $6.99

So for $10 I got about $55 worth of products. You can’t complain about that!

However, I only really liked two things out of this bag, and one of them is the bag itself. =\

My verdict: I really like the bag. It’s super cute!
– I’m not a fan of the lip gloss at all. It’s not a color I would have ever picked up. It’s also really thick and sticky. =[
– I don’t use hair products (especially since The Big Chop), so this voluminizing spray will go unused.
– I LOVE the angled face brush. It’s REALLY soft and so far, so good with using it for my setting powder.
– I don’t wear blush, but the color is very pretty and would work nicely for an eye shadow. I just personally have too many pink tones already.
– I love the color of the eye liner (I think purple is great for matching with brown eyes), but it’s nothing exciting. Just a purple eye liner.

Overall, this bag is okayyyyy. I’m not going to cancel my subscription or anything, but this IS the first time it’s actually crossed my mind. I’m going to go rate my products on the website and see what I get next month!
I have faith!

Allure: My First Box and A Bit of Allure Versus IPSY

WARNING: This is going to be long and wordy, so if you don’t really care for beauty box subscriptions, you can skip this post.
(Yes Dad, that means you.)

So, as you may know, I’m subscribed to IPSY and have been getting boxes from them for about nine months. I usually like most of the items in my boxes and it’s just plain fun to get stuff in the mail. Am I right? When I set up my IPSY account, I went through this whole thing where I answered all types of questions to build my profile. What products I like, what brands I don’t like, what brands I’d like to try, skin tone, hair color, knowledge of make up (newbie or expert), my favorite types of products, etc. It was pretty extensive but not at all boring. Another thing I really like is that I can log into my account, go to my “Glam Room”, and rate the things I got. I can say, “I love this! Keep sending me more!” or “I don’t really have a use/need for this.”. I think that’s GREAT for being able to really build and customize your bags so that you always like what you’re getting.

I don’t know why, but I decided to try another beauty box subscription to see how I liked it. I chose to try the Allure (Sample Society) box. It’s $15/month (IPSY is $10/month). I know Allure is a pretty popular one and it’s a decent price. (I know some beauty boxes can be $25+ plus and that is NOT OKAY with me – ha!) My beauty boxes are really “just for fun”, so $15 is probably my cap.

I had a code to get my first Allure box for $5 off. (You can find the code on the site.) I signed up, submitted my payment and address info, answered a three question survey, and was done. There was no profile building or anything like that. Once I realized that, I was a bit nervous about what would come in my box. I mean, there was no personalization whatsoever. Oh, and another thing – with IPSY, you create your profile and answer all the questions BEFORE you enter your payment info. I like that because you can see how personalized everything will be before you commit. With Allure, you pay before you do anything else.

My Allure box came and this is what I got:

I obviously got my money’s worth because that StriVectin product alone is $89.
I do think that Allure is more likely to have more well-known brands (like StriVectin), but honestly, aside from the initial shock of “WOW! I got an item worth $89!!” I’m a little disappointed with this box. Yes, the StriVectin is valuable – but I don’t have a need/want for that particular product (Intensive Illuminating Serum – for brightening and evening skin tone, I believe) and I never would have purchased it to try. The facial masks retailed for $1.99 at Target (I happened to see them there the day before I got my box). I do like nail polish, but I don’t see myself wearing that shade (I tend to like darker colors for my nails) and I don’t use dry shampoo or perfume. I knew that this box wasn’t going to be customized to me (due to the lack of questions when signing up), but… EH. I am going to give the subscription another shot and see what I get in the March box. If I don’t like the March box, I’ll cancel this for sure.

I was able to log into my Allure account and give the products 1-5 stars, but there was no way to give an explanation.

I’ll use the nail polish for example – with IPSY, you can say that you like the brand and formula, but don’t care for shade. With Allure, I gave the polish one star, but since I can’t explain why, does that mean I won’t get any more polishes, at all? Ever? IPSY is just more thorough – and less expensive.

So, that’s my ramble on the two subscription boxes. Feel free to ask me any questions!

IPSY – January 2015

*IPSY is a monthly beauty box subscription. The cost is $10/month and you get five beauty products – a mixture of full and sample sized. To sign up, click here.*

My first IPSY of the year!

Such a pretty color!

Such a pretty color!

I got:

Color block zip pouch – white on this side, deep blue on the other.

Four full sized products:
Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow in Treasure – value unknown (I can’t find it on the site, so maybe it’s a new product?)
(MALIN+GOETZ) Mojito Lip Balm – value $12
Astrida Naturals Orange Mint Lip Balm with Shea Oil – value $4
Probelle “Into the Blue” Lacquer – value $6

One sample sized product:
Lash Food Phyto-Medic Eyelash Enhancer – value about $13

So for $10 I got about $35 worth of products NOT INCLUDING the full sized eyeshadow!

My verdict: I love that my items always come with a bag, but I’m getting bag overload over here – LOL!
– The Pacifica eye shadow is a very pretty color and will definitely get used.
– The Mojito Lip Balm is pretty much my favorite thing right now. It’s one of those sticky balms, which usually isn’t something I would prefer, but it’s WONDERFUL for overnight!
– The other balm is okay too. You can’t have too many balms, right?
– I already have a polish similar to this blue, but that’s okay. Can’t have too much of that either. ;]
– I am SO excited for the Lash Food item. I looove big, long, NATURAL lashes, so I’m definitely giving this a go to see if it helps my lashes with “fullness, length, and density”. Maybe I should take a before and after?

Overall, I’m really happy with this bag! Two lip balms seems excessive, but I prefer balms over lipstick and stuff, so I’m a happy camper. I don’t think there’s a single thing in this bag that will go unused, so that’s definitely a plus!

IPSY – December 2014

*IPSY is a monthly beauty box subscription. The cost is $10/month and you get five beauty products – a mixture of full and sample sized. To sign up, click here.*

(I’m just now realizing that I didn’t post about my November IPSY. Sorry! I can’t even find a picture of the contents of the bag… I’m pretty sure I took one. Oh well, oops!)

Here is my December IPSY:

ipsydecember2014I got:

Plain black pencil pouch with a heart zipper pull.

Three full sized products:
Cailyn Cosmetics Just Mineral Eye Polish in Orchid – value $15
NYX Cosmetics Butter Lip Balm in Lady Fingers – value $4
Crown Brush Infinity Shadow/Crease Duet – value $17.50

Two sample sized products:
Bumble and Bumble Straight Blow Dry – value about $2.90
Tarte Deluxe Light, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 mascara – value about $8

So for $10 I got about $47.40 worth of products! That sounds AWESOME!

My verdict: The bag is just basic, but that’s okay!
– The eye polish is such a pretty color! I haven’t used it yet, but I know I will.
– I absolutely love the color of the lip balm. That was the first thing I tried out.
– I’ve always wondered about these Crown Brushes, so I’m glad I got one to try out.
– I probably won’t use the Bumble and Bumble product, but I’m very familiar with the brand and love it!
This Tarte mascara is my absolute favorite now. I may end up buying the full sized version!

Overall, I’m really happy with this bag. I swear my bags just get better and better every month! There’s only one product in this bag that I won’t use. That’s pretty awesome. :] I didn’t realize how much I was getting value-wise either. This is probably my most expensive IPSY bag yet.
